Jos originally trained as a sculptor gaining both a BA Hons in Fine Art in 1974 and a Master of Fine Art degree in 1976 at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. She was awarded the Boise Travelling Scholarship (used to visit West Coast of Ireland and Arran Is.) in 1976.

In following years she exhibited her large scale scultpure group and solo shows in the North and London. One of her sculptures was sited in Grisedale Forest Cumbria.

In recent years Jos has turned to canvas, painting the raw moods of northern land and seascapes. Frequent expeditions to islands off the stormy West Coast of Scotland have given rise to a passionate and powerful body of work. Her latest paintings also draw inspiration from trekking to Nepal.
