Ealanta Lochaber, is a collective of ten individual visual artists that has recently emerged in the remote West Highland region of Lochaber. Ealanta Lochaber meaning Creative Lochaber endeavours to showcase the variety of art work created in the locality and believe in the principle that unity is strength. They feel that working together to promote each other's work will raise the profile of arts in the region, thus making it more accessible to art enthusiasts from around the world.
With an amalgamation of figurative, landscape and wildlife painting, wood turning and mono colographic printing, Ealanta Lochaber heralds an exciting range of disciplines and practices. Andrew Sinclair of Resipole Studios says " Lochaber has a marvellous breadth of high quality visual artists, who due to their geography, seldom have the chance to meet and work together. The Ealanta Lochaber project brings together ten of the best visual practitioners in the area so that collectively they can market their work to a much larger scale'
David Wilson of the Lime Tree Gallery said 'The old socialist adage that 'unity is strength' is absolutely true here. By coming together these ten artists have a much bigger impact and doors will open with opportunities that individually they would not have had'
Ealanta Lochaber consists of Alan B. Hayman, Alistair Smyth, Andrew Sinclair, Andrew Stewart, Anna Raven, David Wilson, Gail Wendorf, James MacCallum, Jamie Hageman and John Hodgson. Ealanta Lochaber held its premier exhibition at the Lime Tree in Fort William on Friday the 16th of July. Further exhibitions include The Glasgow and London Art Fair, as well as a show held in Paris early next year. The collective has also compiled a book that offers a visual representation of its artists' work, showcasing the range of styles and individual interpretations of West Highland life over a broad spectrum of mediums and subject matters. The book will be available to buy in tourist venues and galleries across the Highlands.
