Resipole Studios is delighted to present the latest collection of works by west coast of Scotland based artist Andrew Sinclair in the exhibition An Seo, the Scots Gaelic term for “in this place.” Sinclair, whose family has called Resipole home for three generations, draws deep inspiration from the surrounding landscape, culture, and community. An Seo showcases his signature style through intimate figurative compositions, captivating local landscapes, and evocative still life scenes.

After graduating with an honours degree in Painting and Drawing from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee (1996), Andrew Sinclair established himself as an oil painter working in the chiaroscuro style. This technique, emphasising dramatic light-shadow contrasts, perfectly complements Sinclair’s focus on the human form. His paintings offer glimpses into real life, encompassing intimate portraits, group scenes, local landscapes, and still lifes. He describes his approach: ‘Strong lighting helps capture form and create dynamic compositions. Subtle narratives within the paintings invite viewers to connect with the subjects.’ Sinclair’s work possesses a distinct character, perhaps reflecting influences from his travels beyond the Scottish Highlands. This unique blend is further emphasised by his distinctive palette and masterful use of light and shadow.
