julia christie

Julia initially trained as an Illustrator at Manchester Polytechnic from 1980 to 1984. She obtained a first class honours degree and began her career as a professional Illustrator. Julia was commissioned to work on numerous projects including Alice in Wonderland by Octopus Books, Beauty and the Beast by Frederick Warne and The Saga of Ethelred Flametail by Lilliput Lane. In 1985 she moved to Gloucestershire to work at the Prema Project in Uley as an artist in residence and began her teaching career. She worked with community groups, local prisons and also ran weekly painting and drawing classes in Stroud. Julia has exhibited at various galleries in Gloucestershire and organised two major award winning exhibitions on the theme of trees, 'Branching Out', at The Museum in the Park - Stroud. Julia’s family originate from Skye and it is here where she finds inspiration for her current work. Julia loves the natural world, especially trees, and tries to capture the essence and beauty of nature with paint. She particularly enjoys exploring the use of colour and loves to experiment and take risks with its application.
