Charles MacQueen RSW RGI was born in Glasgow in 1940 and is a multi-award winning artist who is considered to be one of Scotland's leading abstract painters. He graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1965 and went on to have a career as a teacher of art before turning to full time professional painting in 1990. He was elected a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1983 and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1984, serving the latter as Vice President for the East of Scotland.

His work is inspired by travels to countries such as Italy, Greece, Morocco and France, but are painted entirely from his imagination, drawing upon the memory of place, form and light. MacQueen's paintings are built up using mixed media and, as a result, are highly textured and layered. The result is atmospheric, evocative and dreamlike.

MacQueen currently lives and works in Fife. His work can be found public and private collections all over the world.
