Jane Rushton was born and brought up rural North Lancashire. After studying 20th Century Art and Visual Culture she went on to complete an M.Phil in Art: Practice and Theory and subsequently worked for many years as a lecturer in 20thC Art History, and as Studio Practice tutor at Lancaster University. Jane’s own art has always been based in landscape and it expresses her experience of being within the northern environments to which she is drawn. From northern England and Scotland, to the Arctic regions of Greenland and Svalbard, it is the quiet observation of the natural environment and the processes at play within it that engage her and lead to paintings and drawings that aim to invite contemplation and reverie in her viewer. Jane is based in Mallaig in the West Highlands.
