Katy Sawrey is an Edinburgh based artist who studied Textile Design at Central Saint Martins in London. It was during this time that she developed a love of mark making and colour. Whilst initially specialising in print, she naturally gravitated towards sketching and experimenting with texture and colour. After graduating, she spent several years living in New Zealand before returning to the UK and once again picking up her paint brushes. Katy’s atmospheric paintings are formed by creating many layers of abstract, geometric shapes. Depth is built through textured brush work, finished with subtle marks and glazes. Although her work is abstract in nature, Katy draws inspiration from the colours and lines of the dramatic Scottish coastline.
