Based in the West Highlands of Scotland, Jess Hinsley is a contemporary landscape artist whose practice is deeply rooted in an exploration of nature and wild places. Finding her profoundest sense of belonging among the peaks, Hinsley engages with the mountains on two distinct levels: through physical immersion on foot and creative translation with her brush. Her process is defined by immediacy and presence. Painting en plein air in acrylics, she employs quick, spontaneous marks to capture the raw essence of the topography through her own eyes. Her vibrant palette reflects the rich, complex tones she observes in the wilderness—an environment she turns to for grounding during times of uncertainty. Each piece is entirely created on-site, effectively infusing the canvas with the literal and figurative atmosphere of the mountains.
