lesley burr
Lesley Burr RGI is an acclaimed Scottish contemporary painter, printmaker, and public artist. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Burr first gained national prominence in the 1980s as one of the “Glasgow Girls,” a pivotal movement that reinvigorated figurative art in Scotland.
Burr’s practice centres on symbolic landscapes that explore the profound inter-relationship between humans and the natural environment. Drawing inspiration from the rugged coasts of Western Scotland, the Shetland Isles, and the Arctic, her work balances a spacious simplicity with rich colour and deep narrative empathy. In 2019, she was named Arctic Artist-in-Residence by the Scott Polar Research Institute, producing an influential body of work addressing climate vulnerability and the changing polar wilderness. Her works are held in numerous public and private collections across the UK and internationally.
